The Williamson County Astronomy Club serves the Williamson County and North Austin (Texas) suburban corridor including the communities of Austin, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Hutto, Jollyville, Leander, Liberty Hill, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Sun City, and Taylor.

About Us

We are a small, informal club with a diverse membership of all ages who share an interest in astronomy and the space sciences. Our goals are to further the knowledge of and interest in astronomy within our community while enjoying the wonders of the universe. Visitors are always welcome at our monthly meetings. Please feel free to join us and share our common interest.

Membership

Membership is open to those of all ages with an interest in astronomy or the space sciences. We do not charge any club dues or membership fees.

A full-fledged member is simply anyone who regularly attends more than about six  meetings per year.

Visitors are always welcome at meetings.

Meetings

Meetings are always held on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM.

Meetings may be held virtually online and / or in person. Contact us for more details.

Meetings usually include informal discussions, club announcements, and one or more presentations covering some aspect of astronomy or space science.

Activities

The club holds monthly Meeting Programs, Private Members-Only Observing Outings, and Public Outreach Observing Sessions.

Public events are held in concert with Georgetown and Williamson County Parks Departments. Geogetown's Garey Park and the Berry Springs County Park (currently under construction for park upgrades) host public observing during non-Summer months.

Presentation: "Eclipse Preparations" A group participation by attendees. 
The full agenda for the meeting has not yet been finalized. On the agenda will be the monthly "What's Up?" observing segment, an "Around the Room" segment where members can talk about any observing or astrophotography they have done in the past month, discussion and / or planning for possible upcoming public stargazing events, continued discussion of club organization, and members' observing plans for the upcoming month.

Typically, meetings start with introductions and any club business, followed by discussions or demonstrations of member observations or recent projects. Some meetings may include a featured educational / informative presentation on a specific topic.

Garey Park Stargazing

Preregistration is Required

Gates to the park open for entry 30 minutes prior to the scheduled stargazing start time. Gates close for further entry 30 minutes after the start time. A small entry fee is required for participants (to pay for park usage), except that children under ages 3 and younger are free. Pre-registration for stargazing nights at Garey Park is required as the number of guests is limited. The observing area is northeast of the Garey House. Follow the signs from the gate house and turn right at the Gary House into the large parking lot. Walk towards the restrooms and the telescopes will be set up along the Meadow Road to the left.
